It seems that everyone is starting an online business these days.
Okay maybe not e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e.
But I have noticed within half an hour of being at any type of social gathering (especially in the last 6 months), without even bringing the subject up, someone will inevitably begin sharing about themselves, a family member or someone they know who is starting, or has started an online business.
And why not?
Setup costs compared to bricks and mortar businesses are piddly. Running costs are really manageable too. And you can be set up in a matter of hours… even less.
This means if you’re set up the right way, profits are possible – MUCH sooner (that’s possible, not guaranteed). And with an online business, many of the traditionally mundane processes can be completely automated.
Working less = good :-)
And let’s face it, when it comes to most industries and niche markets; online is where our customers (or potential customers) are now spending a LOT of their time and money.
Even male Baby Boomers now preaching the benefits of shopping online – “I saved 80 bucks and it was at my doorstep the next day” said my Dad last week proudly who is now in his 70’s.
Hey, It’s Still The Good Old Days…
Google was founded in just 1998 (Adwords in 2000)
And Facebook in just 2004. Some more Facebook facts…
- Facebook now has more than 500 Million active users
- An average Facebook user has 130 friends
- People spend over 700 Billion minutes per month on Facebook (okay Mark we get the idea)
So what’s all this Google, Facebook and interweb stuff mean to you and me?
It means the opportunity to setup and oversee an influential and profitable online business on a shoestring budget exists – TODAY. Still.
Web marketing as we know it today is really only 5 or 6 years old.
Even the most saturated markets are still WIDE open online, and there are still literally millions of markets waiting to be tapped properly.
Not only this, the volume of traffic that is ripe for monetization is swelling more every day as more people come online and become active.
And because of the sheer volume of traffic online, you and I really only need to grab tiny crumb of this giant pie to create (even replace) the income of one, two or more ‘normal’ jobs.
Sounds easy enough doesn’t it?
But there’s always…

The big problem is the overwhelming amount of information available online around creating an online business.
There are just so many questions…
- What’s the best way to settle on my domain name?
- What should I build my website with – and why – then exactly how?
- How will I capture leads?
- How will I handle and process monetary transactions?
- How can I tie in (leverage) social media without being chained to my computer?
And then there’s there’s also plain old: “Where the heck am I gonna find the time to this?”
